Originating from a community of fishermen, this city got its name due to the large quantity of pebbles (seixos) on the local beaches, improvised as ballast on boats. The Seixal bay was the starting point of Vasco da Gama´s journey due Belém, and onwards towards one of the most important maritime discoveries of our history. Take the opportunity to dine in one of the many manors, or visit the industries some already extinct, with strong connection to the Tagus Estuary.
